Hi everyone,

What’s coming up for you this week? As we get closer to the BIG holiday week many of us are starting to feel the crunch. So much to do and so many people to please! How can we do that and still take care of ourselves.

This season brings a yearly opportunity to explore how we balance self care with care for others. For even the most committed self-care person, this season brings challenges. We may find that we revert to behaviours that we thought we had given up - like saying yes when we really want to say no! But darn, I've done it again, and now I have to do it.

The pressure of the season can activate all kinds of core issues for us. We can find ourselves anxious or depressed, wanting to eat, drink, smoke things we thought we had long ago given up. We might find ourselves disagreeing over trivial things or just reverting to couch potato mode. These are all defensive activities that worked for us in the past. But overeating, arguing with your neighbour or self isolating with Netflix may help us avoid deeper discomfort for a while, but they don’t bring the result we really want. Which, among other things, can be a feeling that we have choice and control over how we move through our days. With the seasonal demands fully upon us we may not have time to fully explore our defensive behaviour patterns. But we can easily let the steam out of the pressure cooker with Tapping.Tapping can bring immediate relief to that pressure whether we are conscious of the source or not.

What's Up Tapping

I use EFT on a continuum - for myself and my clients
  • First, we tap without words. This reduces our body's stress response, lowers cortisol, and other stress hormones, and helps us shift from upset to calm.
  • Then, if necessary, we add words to express what's going on at the moment, whatever it is.
  • And finally, we use words and specific Emotional Freedom techniques to release troubling  emotional triggers so we can shift limiting beliefs and behaviours to live our lives from a place of peace and joy..

Today, I want to share some basic Tapping skills to help you find peace in that moment of upset. You can even build resilience for your nervous system to be less volatile by adding regular tapping to your day - even when you're not upset about anything. Tap while you're waiting for your coffee, or the stoplight. Tap while you're watching TV. Research shows that this tones the nervous system so we are not as easily knocked off balance by the daily ups and downs. And... when something upsetting does happen, tapping on whatever comes up opens the doorway to more peace.

Here's the thing about What's Up Tapping .... We often judge ourselves for having 'negative' emotions. But emotions are not negative or positive.  They are stuck energy and are messages from our nervous system.Emotions point to something that we need to notice. We may want to experience higher and happier emotions and feel we need to suppress others, but that's a recipe for disaster when we do it over the long term.

So we begin with tapping on whatever is coming up - irritation at our boss, anxiety about an upcoming event or anger about something that happened. We need to process the energy these emotions hold, and move through them to insights about how we can move forward more peacefully. THEN we can choose to feel and nourish more uplifting emotions.
