Are you feeling swept away? Normal every day stress seems to magnify into a special version of Christmas stress!
How can we get through this seasonal frenzy? Let's connect to a few quick tools that nurture and nourish ourselves and help us come back our centre. From there we have some choice about how we can navigate these demanding days. These weekly December newsletters have shared how to connect to what lights us up as a way of shifting into a more beneficial biological state. We then learned a quick tapping tool to use in the moment to take the steam out of stress. This week we will explore some quick ways to ground our energy, which helps reduce both the emotional and physical inflammation that comes with the season.
Grounding and Re-orienting yourself to the present moment:
Start by tapping around the points, take some slow and easy breaths and slowly move your eyes around the room. Side to side, up and down. Inside or our your window. Name one thing you see that brings you pleasure. When you look at this person, place or thing, notice how you feel. Notice any sounds or smells that come to you, and feel your feet on the floor, your butt in the chair (if you're sitting). Breathe that pleasure into every cell of your body and put a smile on your face that will remind you of that thing. Check back into that smile whenever you are feeling overwhelmed.
Add in some foods that help ground your energy. This can help reduce physical and emotional inflammation. If you're feeling overwhelmed and unable to focus, then your energy needs grounding. Have a little snack with some protein and minerals. Maybe a small handful of walnuts, pumpkin seeds or hazel nuts. These contain protein, which is grounding, omega three fatty acids that are helpful to reduce inflammation, and with a little sea salt, which can bring some grounding energy.
Let go of the prefect diet!
In this season when we are already carrying lots of responsibilities, we can easily fall into some self judgement about our diets, I don't advise making huge, sudden changes at any time, but especially not in this season. Expecting ourselves to eat a 'perfect' diet, whatever that is for you, is not helpful and sets us up for a shame judgement cycle. What I do suggest is that we can simply add in a few things that will help nourish us through these days.
Add in: in some nourishing foods to help boost you immune system and reduce inflammation and stress. Here are a few little tips that will all help!
- Get some water into you! Stay hydrated!
- Add in some healthy leafy greens and eat a rainbow of veggies.
- And focus on lots of omega three oils.
Take time to soothe yourself.
Can you find time to soak in an Epsom salts bath? Either a full bath or simply soak your feet for a few minutes. Listen to some soothing music.
The more we can nurture and nourish ourselves, the more joy and love we can share with our families.
